Congratulations to Le Casque wines in Loomis, one of our local buyers, on their recent San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition awards.  Casque took home multiple awards from the 2018 edition of the largest competition of American wines including:

Six entries = Six wins!

2014 Adrian Red (Blend) – Best of Class
2015 Calotte (Blend) – Double Gold
2015 Cabernet Franc – Gold
2015 Syrah – Gold
2015 Espion (Blend) – Silver
2015 Grenache – Silver
Cabernet Franc bottle
The Cabernet Franc is crafted using Clos du Lac grapes from vineyard block A.  The 2018 Gold medal for the 2015 vintage follows the success for the prior year 2014 vintage that won double gold, best-in-class at the 2017 California State Fair Wine Competition and scored a 90 point rating from Wine Enthusiast.  The 2014 vintage sold out before the Wine Enthusiast rating even came out!  So you’d better grab some 2015.
Espion is a blend that includes Petite Sirah from our block C vineyard.  The silver award in 2018 doesn’t do this wine justice.  This is a tremendous wine that just needs a bit more age.  The 2014 vintage scored a Gold medal at the same competition and was rated 92 points and Editors Choice by Wine Enthusiast, and the 2015 is even better.  The 2014 is sold out so you’d better make sure to stock up on the 2015 vintage.
While you are stocking up on your Casque wins, make sure to check out the 2014 Petite Sirah made from Clos du Lac grapes.  This wine is an excellent Petite and took home a gold at the 2017 California State Fair and was rated 89 points by Wine Enthusiast.   The 2015 vintage that will be released in the fall is a monster that’s even better that the 2014, but you’ll have to wait for that.
Kevin Stevenson and Tim Weyrich are making some terrific wines and along with the other Placer county wineries and helping put our little wine region on the map.  You get these wines online via their website.
