The rains of January were a relief after a dry December, but the worries return 18 days into February with no rainfall, and the forecast isn’t looking any better.  The reservoirs are still in good shape from last year, but a dry winter and warming temperatures bring new worries: we’re at risk of bud break in the vines sooner than usual.

Why is this a worry, you may ask?  Well a bud break this early creates a greater chance of a spring frost causing damage to the crop.  There’s a great blog post on the Tablas Creek blog that discusses this.  Fortunately some cooler temps are on the way that can hopefully delay bud break a bit longer.
